VPS Black Talk Popularization and Literacy

Industry Jargon#

Industry jargon refers to alternative vocabulary or abbreviations used by service providers and industries to avoid being filtered out by keyword matching.

Du Fu, Poisonous Woman#

"Du Fu" means independent server.

White Girlfriend#

"White pick" (referring to getting something for free).

Corn#

Domain name.

Oneman#

An IDC service provider operated by only one person, who may run away at any time.

Little Chicken#

VPS, virtual server, refers to small servers virtualized from independent servers.

Mother Chicken#

Refers to independent servers. Since VPS are all virtualized from independent servers (essentially, an independent server running multiple virtual machines), small VPS are called "little chickens," and the independent servers that produce them are called "mother chickens."

Super Beast#

Overselling, refers to the practice of selling more shares than the server can handle. For example, it is normal for an independent server to virtualize 10 VPS, but some vendors may virtualize 20 or more VPS for maximum profit.

Family Heirloom#

Refers to some high-cost-performance and rare servers, often accompanied by a very high premium.

Landing Chicken / Transit Chicken / NAT Chicken#

Landing chicken refers to poor network quality but good unlocking capabilities.
Transit chicken generally refers to servers with excellent lines, or transit servers in coastal cities in China. Essentially, they are all in the bag.
NAT chicken refers to shared IPv4 servers. The usage involves an additional layer of port forwarding. Virtual machine NAT mode, the public IP address of the operator (NAT internet access).

PS:
A transit server refers to an intermediate server that forwards user requests to the target server. When using a VPS, it is often accessed through a transit server. For example, if a user in China sets up a website on a VPS but foreign users cannot access it directly due to network restrictions, the user can rent a VPS abroad as a transit server and connect it to the domestic VPS to achieve access. In this process, the user's request first reaches the transit server, which then forwards the request to the domestic VPS, and finally returns the response to the user. The transit server can also add extra security and privacy protection measures to safeguard user data and privacy.
A landing server refers to the physical server where the VPS actually runs. When a user purchases a VPS, they are essentially buying a portion of virtual resources (CPU, memory, disk space, bandwidth, etc.) that run on an actual physical server. This physical server is the landing server. When users access the VPS, they are actually operating on a virtual machine running on the landing server. The performance and stability of the landing server are crucial for the effectiveness of using the VPS, and users should pay attention to the configuration of the landing server and the hosting provider's maintenance and management of it.

MJJ#

Little chicken refers to VPS, mother chicken refers to independent servers, and those who buy them are called "chicken buyers," abbreviated as MJJ, which also implies "no jiji."

Stone Disk, Diamond Disk#

Refers to hard drives with extremely low IO; diamond disks (0~30M/S) have lower IO than stone disks (30~100M/S).

Three Mao, Five Mao#

Ultra-cheap servers sold by the Russian provider ruvds, with "Three Mao" named for its price of 30 rubles (about 2.7 yuan) and being a Russian server.

CF#

Abbreviation for Cloudflare, an American company, a CDN service provider that offers many free services, regarded as a conscience in the industry, highly praised by MJJ for its powerful and free features.

CFT#

AWS Amazon Cloud's free CDN service, offering 1TB of outbound traffic per month for free (traffic from VPS to CFT is not charged, while CFT to your computer counts against the free 1TB limit), but exceeding 1TB will incur charges. Building a website can be as costly as renting a room for a night, and binding one's card may lead to cross-border debt collection, so MJJ only dares to use it for monthly exploitation.

Turtle Shell / Turtle / Wang Ba

Oracle Cloud provides free VPS with high configuration, fast speed, and good lines, requiring a credit card for registration, with a very high failure rate. Even if registration is successful, accounts can easily be banned. Countless MJJ flock to it, as its successful registration configuration page resembles a turtle shell, and its strict risk control makes registration difficult, confirming its hard shell characteristic.#

Backstab#

Refers to price reductions or the release of a better product with a higher cost-performance ratio than what you purchased. For example, if I bought something at full price, and shortly after, the merchant's product goes on sale.

New Boli, Old Boli#

Boli: Refers to the VPS from the service provider gcorelabs.com in the Novosibirsk data center.
Old Boli configuration: 1c 512m 10G 1TB 500mbps, 88 rubles/month.
New Boli configuration: 1c 512m 10G 500G 100mbps.

Fatty / Thin Monkey / Ma Gan#

Fatty: Refers to the VirMach owner, mistakenly thought by MJJ to be the RN owner.
Thin Monkey / Ma Gan: After experienced MJJ discovered the real FB/INS/LINKEDIN/TWITTER accounts of the VirMach owner, they found that the VirMach owner is relatively thin, and now MJJ usually refers to the VirMach owner as "thin monkey" or "ma gan."
Not much to say about this company; just a little research into its dark history reveals everything.

Bandwagon (搬瓦工), Spartan (斯巴达), Diao Ji (鸡总), Five Discount Cloud, Green Cloud (宝强云,绿帽云,颜色云)#

Bandwagon: A supplier that provides high-quality CN2 line servers. Around 2014-2015, its annual payment options of $3.99, $4.99, and $5.99 for OpenVZ little chickens became well-known for their low prices. After gradually declining, it became a classic family heirloom.
Spartanhost: Known for its high-defense VPS lines that are also cheap, with decent CPU and hard disk performance. After the line revision, it switched to the cera4837 line, 10G port, and is only second to GIA in speed. However, due to the instability of its 4837 line and submarine cable faults, the experience was poor, leading MJJ to jokingly call it "Spalaba."
Wikihost: According to MJJ, the owner's name is Diao Ji, and since they sell servers, they are referred to as "chicken boss."
V.ps: Because it often offers 50% off annual payments (three years, five years, etc.), MJJ jokingly calls it "Five Discount Cloud."
Greencloud: Has many nicknames just because its name contains "green," and MJJ jokingly calls it "Jia Nailiang Cloud," which shows MJJ's ability to name things.

It is an internet phone that cannot be used without internet access (and must be able to access Google). Anonymously register for some services. Quite difficult to apply for; I was fortunate to successfully choose a preferred number when it wasn't strict.
ion: Service provider ion Cloud;
cc: Cloudcone;
rn: Racknerd.

Routine Cloud, Conscience Cloud, Cool Heart Cloud#

Routine Cloud: Refers to Alibaba Cloud, which has deep routines in activities, discounts, pricing, etc. (opposite of Conscience Cloud, which is too routine).
Conscience Cloud: Refers to Tencent Cloud, which has significant promotional efforts. (One year, Tencent Cloud offered 2000 yuan in no-threshold vouchers, and later also offered small vouchers, which was very conscientious.)
Cool Heart Cloud: Refers to Tencent Cloud, which attracted a large number of MJJ with significant promotional efforts, then began to massively ban accounts involved in mining and jumping.

3O: Refers to the 3 Euro independent server family heirloom from the service provider online.net.
5O: OneProvider OP 5O independent server.

Four Great Kings (CC, RN, VIR, PR)#

These are four VPS suppliers, mainly focusing on US VPS, considered "spiritual vehicles," with much controversy but low prices.
CC refers to Cloudcone, which I also use; it seems to have some overselling issues, and the MULTACOM data center sometimes fluctuates during peak hours, causing disconnections.
RN is Racknerd, relatively cheap but not very high performance.
VIR is VirMach, very cheap, with good Japanese VPS lines, said to be a "happy chicken" from China Unicom, but the owner often deletes accounts and scams, with poor reputation and no refunds for banned accounts. Avoid spiritual vehicles.
PR is PacificRack, deletes servers and accounts without refunds. Abuses customers, universally condemned.

President / Wild Horse / Sword Emperor / 127#

President / Wild Horse: Refers to a person or team skilled in black hat SEO techniques, originating from someone named "President" or "Wild Horse" who exploits external rules to demand protection fees from gray and black websites for placing their gambling and adult ads. If not paid, they will fake block your site, making it inaccessible and lowering its ranking (essentially, they are people who make a living by exploiting the Great Firewall).
Sword Emperor: A homophone for "censorship," refers to self-organized groups that maintain the physical and mental health development of teenagers by identifying pornographic works. They conduct high-traffic access that causes their servers or wallets to be overloaded, abandoning the persecution of teenagers. It is said that a pornographic broadcaster used Alibaba OSS, incurring traffic costs as high as 0.75r/GB, and when their pornographic broadcast paid but did not allow viewing, MJJ angrily deployed dozens (or even hundreds) of high-bandwidth servers to brush traffic for a long time, ultimately being forced to delete files, but according to Alibaba Cloud's billing, it would be at least six figures (in short, they used scripts to brush traffic).
127: 127.0.0.1, your website cannot be opened.

PT / Box#

PT: (Private Tracker) Downloading is actually a type of BT download, with two obvious differences from BT downloads: private small-scale downloads and traffic statistics. PT downloading is a small-scale BT download that disables DHT and selectively controls the number of users. Thus, within a limited scope, the downloading users can generally reach their bandwidth limits.
Box: Here, "box" includes but is not limited to boxes provided by professional box operators, VPS and independent servers provided by IDC service providers, and other network service devices that can be used for PT downloading and uploading. (MJJ usually likes to use hz, netcup, cheap few O independent servers, and high-bandwidth servers).

Spiritual Vehicle#

It literally means that if you buy a VPS or other services, how long you can actually use it depends on the seller's integrity. It may be usable today but not tomorrow, or the service provider may run away, leading to uncertainty about how long it can be used (depending on luck). It often refers to new businesses that have been established for only a few years or suddenly emerged new vendors.

North Shore#

The harmonized version of the record, as there are keyword filters there, some words may not be displayed and will turn into two stars (indeed, Chinese characters are the most beautiful language in the world, hee hee~).

DMCA#

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a US copyright law that states that online service providers can avoid copyright infringement liability if they promptly remove infringing content upon receiving a notice from the copyright owner or their designated agent. If the copyright owner believes their copyrighted work has been infringed without consent, they must provide the following information to AMD.

DD#

Refers to changing the system, installing a new system that you need using a method not provided by the platform.

NF / Naifei:#

Netflix, a foreign video platform.

YouTube#

YouTube, which cannot be accessed from mainland China. Many people usually connect their VPS to their local computer to play high-definition videos on YouTube to test the VPS's line and quality.

aff#

Invitation link; ordering VPS through these links allows the person sharing the link to receive some rewards.

eu.org#

Provides free domain names, application without thresholds, but approval is random. With good luck, it may take three to five days, while longer may take two to three months, and there's no guarantee of success.

Peak Hours#

Peak hours are from 7 PM to 12 AM Beijing time, causing extremely high packet loss and latency when accessing foreign websites. This is due to insufficient capacity of the switches responsible for international lines in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, and telecom limits the priority of ordinary users, artificially creating delays.

4837#

Refers to the routes of the last one or two hops before returning home and the last one or two hops abroad that pass through nodes with AS number 4837. Due to the relatively low load on the line, it performs better than ordinary lines and is cheaper than CN2 GIA/9929 lines, making it a popular choice in recent years.

CN2 GIA#

GIA stands for Global Internet Access, and CN2 GIA is a high-end product among CN2 lines, ranking the highest in CN2, with the entire journey and return passing through high-speed nodes at 59.43. CN2 (AS4809). CN2 GIA lines are generally stable, fast, and have low packet loss rates.

CMI#

China Mobile International Company, located in Hong Kong, offers premium lines from Mobile.

9929 / 10099#

Unicom's premium lines, with the numbers coming from Unicom's ASN, while ordinary users' lines are AS4837.

CN2#

Divided into CN2 GT and GIA, it is a premium line from China Telecom. Ordinary users are on 163 (unrelated to NetEase). GT is the return path CN2, while the outgoing path is 163; GIA is a two-way CN2, exclusive to the wealthy. If route tracking shows an IP starting with 59.43, it indicates that it has passed through the CN2 line. "Three-network CN2" refers to other operators also using Telecom nodes to exit.

163#

Traditional 163 backbone network, the most common and ordinary line, also known as ChinaNet (AS4134), which is not optimized for Telecom users. Generally, it uses this type of carrier network (entirely through the 202.97 node), and because many people use it, the line is not optimized, leading to line delays and high packet loss during peak hours.

Discussion on VPS Lines#

The return path is not always the same. The quality of Telecom to Singapore is extremely poor, basically all routing through the US. Telecom to Japan's NTT also experiences issues during the day, and during peak hours, it can be as bad as a submarine cable being cut, with packet loss rates reaching 50%! Mobile pulls to Asian VPS, Unicom pulls to Europe, and Telecom pulls to the US West Coast, which I personally feel is the fastest. I have hardly used Mobile, so I can only speculate.

  1. You don't have to guess; Mobile's invincible level in Southeast Asia punches 163 and kicks 4837. If it's HK, it can even compete with GIA.
  2. As for Telecom, it actually runs well to Tokyo's IIJ, with fast speeds and low latency.
  3. Additionally, Tianhai Ren (Hu Guo) uses 9929 to run Vir's IIJ line, which goes through SoftBank, but GC's IIJ does not, whether in Osaka or Tokyo.
  4. Now (not considering the situation of SoftBank being attacked), SoftBank still serves all three networks, with Mobile, Unicom, and Telecom all able to run, and the latency in Japan is also excellent.
  5. The difference between Mobile running SoftBank and IIJ is minimal, with latency and speed being quite similar, as both lines go through HK.
